"This hotel is in an awesome location with an incredible view of the mountains. I had never heard of Mirepoix and was simply looking for a place close to Carcassonne when I found Auberge du Balestie on the web. Turns out Carcassone took half a day, while Mirepoix and the surrounding areas took my breath away for 4 days. Add to that the service you receive from David and Sylvie and you've got the perfect package!

David was quick to over suggestions for your daily itinary and Sylvie cooked up amazing dinners to enjoy once you returned. Both English and French are spoken here and if you factor in the view, the patio and the pool - you have a great relaxing stay!"

"The auberge was run by an English couple....and my first thoughts were that this was not going to work in France. However, the atmosphere and the food was such that I never felt that it lost any of that "Gallic charm". The couple were both very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. For people like ourselves who like walking the area had plenty of attractions and the nearby town of Mirepoix was a gem. The auberge is actually on the long-distance path that links Rome with Santiago De Compostela in Spain. Rooms and bed were comfortable and of a good size. Everything worked and it was clean." "I have traveled extensively over the last 30 years, and have stayed in many places including 4 and 5 star hotels, but Auberge du Balestie provided me with my best experience ever. The hosts Dave and Sylvia are wonderfully warm and friendly, and were always ready to help. The rooms are comfortable and well serviced, the restaurant was great, and the views of the Pyrenees are unbelievable. The surrounding area is wonderfully picturesque. "The medieval towns of Mirepoix and Carcassonne had been recommended as places not miss whilst visiting the Pyrenees this summer. I came across the web site of Auberge du Balestie whilst researching the area on the net and took contact details with us. David and Sylvia could not have been more welcoming as we just literally turned up on the doorstep. The rooms have all been recently decorated, are well appointed and good value for money. Breakfast needed to be ordered as the rolls and croissant are freshly baked on the premises each morning. A fair selection of restaurants are available a five minute drive away in Mirepoix but we ate three out of five nights in their own restaurant. The meals were prepared to a very high standard and reasonably priced. David served the best house wine we found all holiday! The location of the Auberge is excellently placed for touring the area with stunning views across to the mountains during the day but do take a moment to look at the sky on a clear night. With little or no light pollution the stars were a stunning spectacle I have seen in only far more exotic locations."KJ, Kent, England 18/09/2007
